Evenh this far north, the highways are marked with the blue "Hurricane Evacuation Route" directionals. Full-strength hurricane, while leaving their storm surge behind at the coastline, can carry their maximum winds inland quite far AND there is a limited amount of hotel space available at a safe distance from the shore. The flow of population away from larger cities like New Orleans, Gulfport, Mobile and Pensacola can have an impact on hotel traffic well north in states like Alabama and Mississippi.
